ARTISTS’ BIOGRAPHIES:
Mike Mangini (USA)(Berklee Professor; Steve Vai, Extreme, Annhilator)
Currently a full-time Professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mike has begun taking drum lessons at age 5 and was known to practice long hours, often as many as eight to ten hours per day. After graduating from high school, Mike briefly quit music to pursue a degree in Computer Science at Bentley College, and, following his graduation, ended up programming software for Patriot Missiles at the U.S. Army! However, in 1987 he decided to go back to his first passion - music, and has since enjoyed a tremendous success playing some of the world’s greatest stages, stadiums and arenas. He first became a member of the american thrash metal band Annihilator, continued his career with Extreme, and on to a four-year stint as member of the Steve Vai touring band. Mike is a proud owner of 5 World records as the World's Fastest Drummer, and students recently voted him the most popular Drum Professor at Berklee! More info at: http://www.mikemangini.com =====================================================
Kim Plainfield (USA)
(Drummers Collective Head of Faculty; Tania Maria, The Pointer Sisters)
Kim secured the drum chair with the Pointer Sisters very early into his professional career. Some years later, he started playing with Bill Connors, the world-renowned guitarist from Chick Corea’s original Electric Band, and Didier Lockwood, the unparalleled French jazz violinist. Kim began to receive international recognition during his seven-year engagement with Tania Maria. During that period, he toured extensively in the US, Europe, Central America, South America, The Caribbean and the Far East. Additional performance and recording credits include Jon Lucien, John Pattitucci, Edgar Winter, Mose Allison and many more. Kim recently completed his debut CD, a joint project with Lincoln Goines, and is now a signed recording artist with EFA Records in Europe and Shiosai Records in Japan. As an educator, Kim is Co-Chairman of the Faculty at the Drummers Collective in New York City where he has taught since 1979. He was an associate professor at S.U.N.Y. Purchase Music Conservatory from 1993 to 2004 and in the fall of 2002 Kim accepted an Associate Professor position at Berklee School of Music. His instructional book “Advanced Concepts” is known as the bible of modern progressive drumming.

Matt Thompson (USA)
(King Diamond)
Current drummer with the global metal sensation King Diamond, a rare European metal band nominated for a Grammy! – was formally educated in jazz studies under Ed Soph, at the University of North Texas in Denton. Having successfully passed the entire UNT Jazz drill – from the 7,6,5,4,3,2 o’clock Lab bands, UNT African, Indian and Afro-cuban ensembles, to the local Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex music scene, Rodney Booth Big band, Deep Ellum and The Shaolin Death Squad – one could say Matt’s rite of passage was accomplished through and through! He joined King Diamond in 2002 and has recorded drums on King’s last four albums: „Abigail Part II The Revenge”, “The Puppet Master”, “Deadly Lullabyes” and “Give Me Your Soul… Please” (he replaced the band’s long-time drummer Mikkey Dee, who left the band to join Motorhead).
